2017 Competitive Season Sees DC All Stars Climb from #77 to #60
The DC Rollergirls’ All-Stars rose in the international standings this season, ending the competitive year at #60 in a new set of rankings released in July 2017 by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association.
The climb from the #77 spot where the All-Stars began in January caps a season in which the team tallied wins on the road against the Carolina Rollergirls, Providence Roller Derby and the DuPage Derby Dames. While they fell short in games against Mother State Roller Derby and the Charlottesville Derby Dames, the All-Stars kept those losses close enough to continue improving their standing.
The DC Rollergirls are part of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), an organization of 400 leagues in the U.S. and abroad. The organization hosts a series of playoff games, including a championship tournament that will be held in Philadelphia this November.
The rise in the WFTDA rankings puts DC in a strong position for the 2018 season. But while the competitive season is wrapping up, DC’s skaters aren’t finished skating for the year: the next home game will be on Saturday, October 21 at the Rockville Sportsplex.
The league would like to thank the referees, non-skating officials, volunteers and fans who have supported us this season. We can’t do it without all of you!
