At long last, DC Rollergirls has a space to call its own.
After years of dedicated skaters trekking across the D.C. metropolitan area for late-night practices, DC Rollergirls has signed a lease for a practice space in the town of Edmonston, Md.
The warehouse, located at 5706 Lafayette Place, gives the league the space it needs to train skaters and host interleague competitions.
The new location wouldn’t have been possible without DCRG’s strong community support, which helped the league to raise more than $40,000.
“Finally having a warehouse for the league to call home is a nearly-decade-long dream come true,” said Adrienne Schreiber, president of the DC Rollergirls. “We send a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to those who helped us reach our goal, which will help us to boost our level of competition and to share our sport in new ways.”
The DC Rollergirls are excited to get to know the community of Edmonston, as well as the neighboring areas of Hyattsville, Riverdale, and College Park.
They also want to thank the staffs at Temple Hills Skating Palace, Crofton’s SkateZone, the Michael and Son Sportsplex locations in Rockville and Dulles, and the many, many other locations where the league has honed its skills over recent years.
Formed in 2006, DC Rollergirls is the National Capital Region’s premier women’s flat-track roller derby league. The women who make up the league come from all walks of life, but they all have one thing in common: they are strong, fierce, competitive athletes who are passionate about the sport of roller derby.
