Ryan N’Tigers N’Bears
#39
How many seasons have you been skating with the DC Rollergirls, and for which teams?
I transferred to DCRG in the fall of 2015 and was drafted to Scare Force and the DCRG Travel Team
How and why did you first get involved in roller derby?
I was working with someone who skated for DCRG and she invited me to come watch a game. I was hooked and signed up for bootcamp.
What was your athletic background before learning how to play derby?
I don’t really have much of an athletic background before derby. I played soccer in elementary school. During high school and most of college I did martial arts: Jujitsu.
What’s the story behind your derby name?
My derby big sister from my first league gave me my derby name. I was having a difficult time picking a name and nothing stuck. Finally my Big Sister texted me in the middle of the night “Ryan N’Tigers N’Bears #0HMY” I absolutely LOVE the Wizard of Oz so there no question I was finally named. When I came to DCRG the rules changed and there was another skater with seniority who had a 0 for her number so I needed to come up with a new number. The movie came out in 1939 – #39 was an easy pick.
What’s your favorite DCRG memory?
My favorite memory…. one of the Scare Force vs DC DemonCats games at the Armory. I was jamming and I was trying to call off the jam just before Aurora Borey-ALL-ASS sent me air born.
